What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is "an altered state of consciousness - something which we experience several times a day. It is a perfectly natural state, basically it is the conscious mind's way of having a temporary rest ..."

What is hypnosis?

This is a common question-it is simply an altered state of consciousness which allows positive suggestion to reach the subconscious mind where the therapeutic work is done.

Hypnosis is something we experience several times a day, it is a perfectly natural phenomenon which happens to us all.

How does hypnosis work?

When you are in a therapy setting, we will have a little chat about what it is you want to change in your life, and we will discuss the aspects based around the issue. Very often the core issue is not what you are coming for therapy for, so you might be quite surprised to learn that it is something completely different! This is where the change takes place, the starting point if you like. You decide what you want to change or resolve, and we will progress from there.

The use of hypnosis is essential to access the subconscious mind-this is where everything you have experienced in your life is stored, along with the thoughts and feelings you had at the time. When you are in hypnosis, you are guided into a deeply relaxed state, otherwise known as a hypnotic trance which relaxes both your body and mind so that positive suggestion can be directed at the subconscious to facilitate the changes that you want to make. The positive suggestions will be programmed into the subconscious mind to replace the old patterns and behaviours.

I use a variety of therapeutic tools alongside hypnosis such as NLP,EFT,EMDR which are tailored to your needs which make each session as personalised as possible.

At the end of the session. You will be given a CD which you listen to which helps reinforce what we have covered during the session. It might be worth remembering that hypnosis only works if you are ready to make the changes as the therapist cannot force you to do something you really are not ready to do! Your subconscious also acts as a protector and will always act in your interests.

If you would like to come to me for hypnotherapy, I offer a free 30 minute consultation followed by a taster session of hypnosis at a cost of £20 which is excellent if you are not sure what the experience of hypnosis is like. I prefer to offer the taster before we decide on a course of action as it can help to eliminate any preconceptions of hypnosis, as well as help you to look forward to the forthcoming sessions. The decision to proceed will be entirely your choice.
